Sink your teeth into the gooiest and chewiset brown butter blondies loaded with chocolate chips and chopped pecans!
These delicious brown butter blondies are the ultimate easy treat. You just need 1 bowl, 10 simple ingredients and about 30 minutes!
Ingredients
- Brown Butter - Adds a lovely nuttiness to the blondies.
- Sugar - We'll be using a combination of brown sugar and white sugar. The higher ratio of the brown sugar adds flavor and chewiness. The little bit of white sugar contributes to a crisp texture.
- Vanilla - Use a good quality vanilla extract for the best flavor.
- Egg + Yolk - Make sure your eggs are at room temp. The addition of the yolk creates a chewy texture.
- All-Purpose Flour - Adds structure to the cookie dough.
- Baking Powder - I like to add just a bit of baking powder to help the blondies rise.
- Salt - Balances the sweetness.
- Chocolate Chips - I used semi-sweet chocolate chips.
- Pecans - The pecans adds texture.
Step By Step Instructions
- In a medium size bowl, combine brown butter, brown sugar, white sugar and vanilla extract.
- Add egg and yolk and mix until well combined.
- Sift in flour, baking powder and salt and mix just until there are few flour streaks left. Do not overmix.
- With a rubber spatula, combine chocolate chips and chopped pecans.
- Transfer batter to a prepared 8x8 inch (20.3 x 20.3 cm) pan and bake at 350ºF (176ºC) for 20 to 24 minutes. Mine took 22 minutes. Do not overbake!
- Allow to cool in the pan completely before serving. Cut into 16 or 9 equal pieces.
Tips For Making Blondies
- Brown your butter. Browning butter may seem like a lot of work, but it's really easy and totally worth it! It adds a wonderful nutty flavor to your blondies.
- Measure your flour correctly. When measuring your flour, aerate your flour first, then scoop into your measure cup and then level off with the back of a butter knife. Packing your flour will add too much flour and can result in a tough cookie. I prefer baking in weight rather than by volume. Using a kitchen scale is best as it gives you the most accurate measurement. I follow King Arthur's Weight Chart!
- Do not overmix. When combining your flour, mix until there are very few flour streaks left. Overmixing will cause the gluten in the dough to overdevelop.
- Do not overbake. We want these blondies to be soft and gooey. It's ready when the edges are golden brown and have puffed up slightly. The blondies continue to cook as it cools and will set up perfectly.
- Cool completely before serving. For clean slices, allow to cool completely before cutting into it.
These delicious blondies are so versatile. You can swap out the chocolate chips and pecans for any add-ins such as, white chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, toffee bits, walnuts, macadamia nuts, shredded coconut and so forth.
